Use your favorite things

Updated: Mar 2

RIP my favorite bag

“I am going to cry”

That's what I said when I saw what had happened to my favorite bag after taking it out of my closet.

I was in my bedroom with my partner, packing for our next trip to Paris.

I'd already packed everything: Clothes, too much make-up, too many shoes.

Now it was time for the too-many-bags part.

I had a fancy dinner coming, with some friends involving drinking champagne and being Parisian af, so I decided to take my favorite bag with me.

You know because it was a “special enough” occasion and I wanted to feel fabulous.

Also, I knew it was safe, aka not one of those crazy parties where you feel you need to be wearing the cheap stuff, just in case.

So, here I am, all gollumed up, taking my precious bag out of the dust bag. (Gollum, Lord of The Ring, ha ha)

And boy oh boy, did that spark joy!

At this point, I don’t think it qualified as a spark, it was more of a firework.

But then, I opened it.

The whole inside of the bag was disintegrating into dust. (Don’t ask me why, I still have absolutely no idea…)

It was ruined.

“I am going to cry" and I actually did.

I loved that bag.

Wearing it, I felt special, like I was Carrie Bradshaw.

(That's right. Carrie Bradshaw herself! So yes, THAT special.)

The entire idea of only wearing it on special occasions was based on the theory that THAT was the way from keep it from getting ruined.

Didn’t really work, did it?

I changed my mindset for a happier life

A few days later, I decided to never do that again.

I began to wear my favorite clothes, my favorite make-up, my favorite shoes, my favorite jewelry, my favorite watch.

I started using the fancy dishes, the fancy bedding, and whatever other fancy things I had.

As often as I could.

I still do.

I want to add as many moments of happiness into my life as possible.

I want every day to be special, even if it's in the simplest way, like wearing my favorite red lipstick.

Life is too short to not enjoy it to the fullest.

If using your favorite things makes you feel good or put a smile on your face, even for a minute, you should do that as often as possible.

So, if you have something in your home you love but never use for whatever reason, begin to do so and add a little ray of sunshine into each of your days.

Until next time,

PS: I do have a new favorite bag and I use it all the time.

PPS: I have a confession though: My Precious Bag is still in my home, I could not get rid of her. Marie would not approve. But that's ok.

PPPS: She says "hi" btw, the bag. (Yes, she talks to me. I promise you I am not crazy, my mom had me tested.)
