My Favorites 🫶
With so many things available in the coaching and professional organizing world, I figured it would be a good idea to put together a list of things I recommend because I use them either myself and/or with my clients!
Let me be clear!
You only buy things when you actually need them!
So please do not start by buying organizing supplies, before you start getting organized!
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo
Ok, I had to. This book changed my life. (You can read about it here)
So obviously, this book is, in my opinion, a must, when you're interested in tidying and therefore decluttering your home and surrounding in general.
Kurashi at Home by Marie Kondo
This book centers around the Japanese concept of ‘Kurashi’ meaning your ideal life, and it's Marie's newest book. In this book, Marie explains the difference between physical tidying and life-changing tidying and explains further how tidying can become an incredible opportunity for self growth.
Kurashi at Home is also a beautiful coffee table book, with stunning photographs, but also have a Kindle edition.
Joy at Work by Marie Kondo
Marie Kondo’s book “Joy at Work” is full of ideas and tips for improving your work life.
I think that it is a game changer, specially for people working from home and solopreneurs.
Notion
Notion is simply one of the best tools I’ve ever used!
It is incredibly flexible. It can be a notebook, a habit tracker, a to-do list, a task board, a workout calendar, a knowledge center, a recipe book, and so much more.
There are tones of templates and tutorials on YouTube. It can take some time to set it up, but it is so worth it.
The best thing about Notion is that it doesn't cost a cent for you and me. It does have upgrades you can pay for, but what they are primarily for businesses.
You Need a Budget
I cannot leave without You Need A Budget (YNAB) anymore. It really was THE solution I was looking for years.
It's a household budget solution (but I also use it for my business). It works on the envelope system: allocate money towards the envelopes you defined as you receive it. If the envelope is empty, you either have to steal from another one or go without.
It works phenomenally: It's intuitive and easy to use.
You can automate the tracking of your bank account if you like. I, personally, don't.
LanguageTool
This software has absolutely changed my relation to writing, specially in German, but also for English and even French.
It not only correct the spelling but also the grammar and the syntax. It even gives you alternatives to pimp your texts!
I found the costs very reasonable given how much easier it makes my life.
Turntable Organizer
Turntables are my go-to item not only in the kitchen, but also in the laundry room and in the bedroom.
The idea is to get away from the first-move-5-things-before-getting-to-what-I-need.
In the kitchen, they are for example perfect for keeping all the condiments and bottles organized.
☝️ There are 3 sizes: I particularly use the 28 cm one.
You can read more about my love for turntable organizer here.
Turntable Organizer - "High waist"
This is another type of turntable organizer. The edges are higher, which can make them a bit more practical for bigger bottles, which might fall through the turning.
There is no right or wrong here, it's more of a personal preference and how “powerful” your hands are when turning it.
Organizer Bin - Medium Size
The organizer bins: There come in a lot of forms and size, and it can be overwhelming to know which ones to get for your fridge or kitchen in general. And that's why there are professional organizers like me.
However, this one (25,4 x 15,2 x 12,7) is my all-time favorite and the one I use the most, in my kitchen but also for my clients.
Storage Bin with Lid
I absolutely adore these storage bins. There are perfect for your closet, if you have seasonal items you want to store. They have a lid, so dust stay away from your items, and it is pretty deep (50 cm), so you can optimize the space.
IKEA Komplement Box - 15 cm width
Absolute favorite product from IKEA, specially if you have PAX closets. Can store socks, underwear, but also "bigger" pieces folded vertically.
They don't cost much and are very versatile to organize all kind of things, so not only clothes.
IKEA Komplement Box - 25 cm width
Same same but different!
Perfect organizing product like the items before, just a bit wider. They can be combined the 15-cm-width version, specially if you have a pax drawer.
Jewelry Box
These just are awesome! I am not sure what to add to that.
There is space to store your jewelry individually, which gives you a better overview and avoid the pieces to get tangled in each other.
Cord Organizer Box
Who hates cord as much as I do?
It's practical, discrete, and reduce the frustration of having the cord spaghetti in your face all day long.
What's not to love about it?
Loc Vacuum Wall Hooks
I absolutely adore these vacuum hooks. The vacuum system is strong and works perfectly. No falling out of the blue!
I obviously use them in the bathroom, but also in the kitchen or to hang dressing gowns behind a door.
All you need is a hard, flat surface.
Acrylic Bookends
Pretty and practical, what do you want more?
These can be used for books (duh!), but also for handbags, make-up palettes or cutting board.
I particularly love these because being in acrylic, they are very discrete and aesthetic.
Baby & Kids related
These products are obviously less about organizing, and more about sharing my recommendations to spare you the research.
White Noise Machine
When my son was born, we tried LOTS of different things to produce the white noise, and this machine really was a game changer.
The white noise is produced “mechanically” and is therefore very warm and soothing.
It really made a difference for my son's sleep, specially the falling asleep part.
I recommend it to anyone asking me about the "best" white noise machine.
Leander Changing Mat
To be honest, when I bought this, I like the fanciness of it more than I was convinced it's going to be practical.
But: OH! MY! GOD! We absolutely loved it, specially when we had to lose the changing table because my son was moving around too much, and I didn't want to risk him falling from the table. We put it on the floor, and it was and stayed our changing “station” until not long ago. (My son goes to the potty now!)
It is a bit expensive but from my experience, worth every cent.
Baby Body Extension
I have gifted these to every friend I have who had a baby in the past 3 years.
You attached them to your baby's bodysuits and win a few centimeters. This is specially cool, when the baby grows in height but not in “width” yet.
In our case, thanks to these extensions, we could save up lots of money, as we didn't have to buy bodysuits in some sizes (6 months and 18 months). The extensions were enough for the bodysuits to still fit our son.
Smoothie Pouches for kids
My son loves "Quetschies" but I find them very expensive, so I decided to make them myself.
These pouches are very practical. The closing system is excellent: we haven't had any leak until now.
Washing them is also not a problem: Warm water, a tiny bit of detergent, sake it off and it's clean.
Visual Timer
Most use item in our household.
Kids don't understand the concept of time.
So, when we want to give my son some time frame, we turn this on: He knows that when it beeps, then it's time to go to bed/KITA, turn the TV off, etc. The good thing is that, because of the red surface, he gets of feeling of the time passing and “how much time” there is still left.
Potty Training Toilet Seat
Same player plays again: We tried different toilet seat for my son and this one is our absolute favorite.
I particularly love the system to adapt it to any toilet seat. The seat is very stable and does not move around when the kid is sitting on it.
Cherry on the top: It's cushioned.
